More than a shelter

About Us

SA Cat Rescue Inc (SACR) was founded in 2019 by a group of cat enthusiasts with a drive to get cats off the streets and into homes.

SACR is a totally not-for-profit organisation with bases in the Adelaide metro area and a regional base in Port Pirie. Through a network of foster carers and volunteers we rescue stray, abandoned, and unwanted cats, keeping them safe, warm, and loved, until they can find their forever homes.

SACR aims to rescue cats and kittens from the harshness of street life, and to prepare them for their new life.

Safe.

We do this by providing the animals in our care with:

  • Veterinary care;

  • Treatment for worms, fleas, and other parasites;

  • Desexing;

  • Microchipping;

  • Vaccinations;

  • A family home environment for their foster period where they are fed nutritious food, pampered, and socialized until ready for their forever home.

We believe cats flourish in a loving home rather than a shelter environment.

Our kittens and cats are placed with foster carers where they are treated like one of the family until they find their forever home.

By meeting their emotional as well as physical needs, SA Cat Rescue helps cats prepare for their new lives by building resilience and trust.

Loved.

The final outcome is cats being rescued from street life and the cycle of pregnancy, disease, and hunger, and being placed in homes where they can be safe, warm, and loved for the rest of their lives.

Our Animal Welfare & No Kill Policy

At SA Cat Rescue, we are about animal welfare first and foremost.  We are a No Kill foster network which operates with a compassionate case by case euthanasia policy.

We work in conjunction with registered veterinary surgeons to determine what is best for each individual cat.  We do not keep animals alive "to save their lives" if this results in pain and discomfort that is too much.

Working with RSPCA South Australia

Commencing in 2020, SA Cat Rescue has partnered with RSPCA South Australia to care for neonatal orphan kittens where our carer capacity allows.

The Team

SACR is co-run by Deb, Tom, Kym-marie, and Toria.  Between them, the committee has over 40 years’ experience caring for foster cats and kittens (and dogs, and possums, and birds!), including 'bottle babies' and critical care cases, as well as a variety of other skills.

Working in conjunction with a small team of dedicated and experienced foster carers, we specialise in neonatal kittens, including 0 day old newborns.

It isn't always easy, but we’re passionate about getting cats off the streets and into homes.
